Asif Kapadia

ASIF KAPADIA is an Academy Award, 4 time BAFTA Award, Grammy, European Film Award winning director, writer and producer and one of the most influential filmmakers of his generation.

Best known for his acclaimed trilogy of films SENNA, AMY and DIEGO MARADONA focussing on child geniuses and the price of fame, these groundbreaking films work dramatically like fiction films but are constructed entirely from archive material. 

Kapadia’s films have premiered at Cannes, Venice, Telluride and Sundance film festivals.

Born in Hackney, London, Kapadia’s family came to the UK from Gujarat, India in the 60s. His international, bilingual background, mixed with his rich, multicultural working class upbringing motivated him to travel and inspired him to work in world cinema. His work crosses genres from drama to documentary, features, shorts, commercials, VR, Film, TV and streamers.

Kapadia has been on the BAFTA Film Committee, he was a member of the Academy Awards Documentary Film Committee, he has been on Juries for the BAFTA awards, Sundance Film Festival, the London Film Festival, The Venice Film Festival VR section and Zurich Film Festival.

Kapadia has a Honorary Doctorate from the Royal College of Art in recognition of his significant contribution to culture and the arts, both internationally and in the UK. He is a Honorary Doctor of Letters from University of Westminister and has a Honorary Doctorate of Arts from the University of East London (UEL).
